Church of Our Lady of Light (Holy Virgin) is a Bulgarian Orthodox church in the late Middle Ages, which is located in Sozopol, Burgas region. The church is located in the northern part of the old town and was built in the XV century on the site of the old church.
The temple is a three-nave odnoapsidny psevdobaziliku. Outside is a low-rise building can easily be confused with the usual home, an architectural solution is explained by the fact that during the Ottoman rule the church in the country should have been no higher and larger mosques (indeed, it could not ensure that the church will not be destroyed). The church was built of hewn stone and reinforced with wooden props.
Over the centuries the building has repeatedly been renovations, so it is very difficult to judge how well it was the original form. On the walls inside the left and traces of old frescos, but it remained a valuable carved iconostasis (decorated with floral ornaments and scenes from the Holy Scriptures), pulpit and bishop's throne, made in the XVIII century masters Debarskoy school.
In 1927 the building was declared a national historical heritage ("people's old"), and later, in 1962, an architectural monument of national importance. In 1967, the Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria also announced iconostasis artistic monument of national importance.
Today the Church of Our Lady of Light is an active church and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church is open to visitors.
