Built 250 years ago, sea fortress Suomenlinna (second name - "Sveaborg") is a jewel of Finland: beautiful oasis surrounded by pure sea air, just a 15-minute ferry ride from the city center. Its museum, galleries, restaurants, cafes, parks and the coast attract not just look for a minute and spend the whole day that will long be remembered. According to the decision of the Swedish Parliament in the XVIII century began construction of Sveaborg, the strongest fortress in the whole of the northern kingdom. Fort, built to protect the entrance to the harbor at Helsinki in 1918, along with the independence of Finland was given the name Suomenlinna, "Finnish fortress." Some fortifications are located on six islands near the coast. Four islands form a defensive line, and in the middle of it is the former administrative center. Although in its history, the fortress was never taken by storm, its defenders successfully resisted Russian army in 1809, and in 1855, during the Crimean War, the castle was shelled by British ships.
