Nikiti - lovely resort town on the peninsula of Sithonia (Halkidiki, Greece). It is located about 35 km south-east from the city of Polygyros and 100 km from Thessaloniki, among olive groves and pine forests. Picturesque landscapes and endless sandy beaches of Nikiti (some of them have been awarded an honorary "blue flag") each year attracts many tourists from all over the world.
Archaeological excavations have shown that Nikita and its surroundings have been inhabited since prehistoric times. In the classical era in the 5-6 km south of Nikiti (between Cape Castries and beach Agia Ioannis) was located antique Galipsos, mention of which occur in the writings of Herodotus. It is known that settlements existed here in Roman and Byzantine era.
The first written mention of the settlement with the name "Nikita" there are documents from the archives of Xenophon monastery at Mount Athos (in possession and were then the land), and date from the early 14th century. During the period of domination in these parts of the Ottoman Empire Nikiti was one of the largest settlements of Halkidiki.

The settlement is divided into two parts - the historic center (located about 2 km from the shoreline in the picturesque hills), and the coastal resort area. Surrounded by greenery and flowers "old city" - picturesque Greek village with traditional stone houses with wooden balconies. Many buildings were built in the 19th century and perfectly preserved to our times, including the Church of St. Nikita (1867), and old school.
All the necessary tourist services you will find in the coastal region. Along the picturesque waterfront focused a lot of cozy restaurants, taverns and cafes where you can relax and enjoy traditional local cuisine. In Nikiti there is a small port. Here you can rent a boat or a boat and take a fascinating voyage along the coast of Sithonia.
