Panorama Mesdag - a cyclorama in The Hague, depicting the XIX century fishing village on the coast. It is named after its author, the Dutch painter Hendrik Willem Mesdag. Mesdag - one of the greatest Dutch marine painters who gained recognition during his lifetime. His paintings were a success, he headed various associations of artists. It was he, as a recognized master, received in 1880 the order to perform the panorama for the Belgian company.

Panorama was invented and patented in the XVIII century in the UK, but in the end of XIX century fashion panorama erupts anew in Belgium and France. Some businessmen from Brussels Mesdag bought "sea view of The Hague." For a panorama built a special building - 16 coal rotunda, which in itself is a fine example of industrial architecture. Dimensions picturesque canvas - 14 meters in height and 114, 5 meters in length, the diameter of the room - about 40 meters. On the creation of panoramas employs a team of artists, especially the wife Mesdag and his disciples. Cynthia Mesdag van Houten was a talented artist, she was called "Lady of the Hague School." Mesdag bought their panorama, considering it one of his most important works.
