Lake Goplo

Goplo Lake - lake located in north-central Poland, near the city of Gniezno. The pond is located within the protected landscape park Goplo. Lake begins about 12 kilometers south of Inowrocław and extends for 37 kilometers from north to south.

The name of the lake was from the medieval Slavic tribe goplan who live in the local lands.

This lake of glacial origin with a low coastline, with numerous bays and peninsulas, in some places marshy shoreline. It is home to catfish - the largest freshwater fish in Europe. The surrounding landscape consists mainly of meadows and forests in the southern part of the lake. The average depth of the lake is from 3 to 4 to 6 meters, 7 meters and the maximum depth of the lake - about 17 meters.

Lake Goplo as a landscape park of the same name, is a tourist attraction in the region. Near the ruins of the former royal castle Kruszwica built by Casimir the Great in the middle of the fourteenth century. Today remained only Mouse Tower, Castle himself was repeatedly destroyed, and today is in ruins.
