In spring 1999, the Foundation "Aeroseum" decided to take the lead in bins belonging to the Royal Swedish Air Force and adjacent to Gothenburg airport. Thus, in the framework of the "Gothenburg - the city of events" was created by Museum of Military History "Aeroseum", which became a center of aviation life.
The museum consists of two stone shelters, one area of 8000 square meters, and the other - 22 000. They were built in the early 1950s at a depth of almost 30 meters underground as protective hangars for modern Göta Wing (F 9). The museum is part of the national cultural heritage and at the moment is considered the question of awarding him the status of a memorial. From 1 January 2008, "Aeroseum" is part of a national network called "Swedish military heritage." This means that the National Museum, the Museum of Defence has economic and other support.
The exposition of the museum displays the history of aviation from Icarus to modern times of civil and military aircraft. In addition, visitors can see the exhibits, they can also build to help restore the aircraft, as well as take a virtual or real flight on models of classic airplanes or helicopters.
In addition to preserving the unique exhibits of the creators and curators of the museum also put in front of him and educational purposes: not only tell about the history of aviation but also to awaken children's interest in technology and science.
"Aeroseum" offers visitors a fascinating walking tour through the different rooms and bunkers, which presents a variety of aircraft, for example, a jet fighter SAAB, vintage aircraft, gliders and several helicopters. Excursions are usually held in Swedish. Other languages are available upon request.
