Sponza Palace is one of the architectural monuments of Dubrovnik. The palace was built under the direction of Pascoe Militsevicha in 1516-1521 years. The palace building is Gothic style with elements of the early Renaissance. In 1667, Sponza Palace severely damaged by an earthquake. Reconstruction lasted for 30 years.
Initially it was assumed that the palace is the residence of the prince. Until 1808 the building of the palace fulfilled this role, when French marshal Auguste Marmon was eliminated republican form of government in Dubrovnik.
In the days of the republic, and the building was used for other purposes. At various times there were treasury, customs, school, bank and mint. Today the Sponza Palace are in the State Archives and the City Museum, which contains a large amount of securities in terms of history documents.
