Central Maritime Museum, Crane (Jura) is one of the most original monuments in Gdansk. It is a building of the XIV century, rises majestically over the Motława River waterfront, it was one of the most advanced facilities of its time in Europe. This port crane used for loading and unloading ships, and also served a defensive function as a port city gates. He also served for the installation of masts on ships.

Its current form it has acquired in the Middle Ages, in the years 1442-1444. In essence, it is the crane, which consists of two round towers and blackened wooden superstructure of the time between them. On the roof is a copper crane - the symbol of vigilance, hence the name - Crane.

The exhibition, arranged inside the Crane, explains its mechanism of action, witty and simple. Earlier front wall Crane hung over the edge of the water. Tightrope loads weighing up to 4 tons lower and raise the hooks on the wall height of 27 meters. The rope was attached to the axis, and it has resulted in the movement of people traveling in two large wheels with a diameter of 5 meters, on the principle of squirrel in a cage. In the center of the Crane has a window, through which, and follows the movement of cargo.

During World War II, Crane was destroyed and rebuilt it in 1956 - 1965 years. In this way, tourists have the opportunity to feel the spirit of the past. In the rooms of the museum recreated domestic sketches workers crane - weigher, the accountant and the company receiving the goods. Crane also lower floors were used as living quarters. There is a reconstruction of the living room. In each room hangs a brief description of the exhibition expositions in foreign languages.
