On the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia, there are more than one hundred waterfalls. Particular among these is Gegsky Falls (popularly known as the Circassian Falls). This is one of the most beautiful and picturesque places in Abkhazia. The waterfall is located in the north of the Gagra Range, in the valley of Gega, after whom it was named. The waterfall is 70 meters.

This waterfall is formed by flood river flow, which flowed in the depths of the karst caves. Gega River, has a length of 25 km, it is one of the largest tributaries of the Bzyb. It flows through a fairly narrow and very picturesque gorge, forming a huge number of waterfalls and rapids. One such area as though the river is hidden in a crevice. Passing through underground corridors and caves, it drops sharply down, as if the rock cuts. This is an amazing Gegsky waterfall.

This amazing sight is even more impressive when the sun. Splashes of water flowing down a dark shiny surface form at the foot of the fantastic rainbow and a beautiful fountain. There is constantly fresh and cool enough, because the water at the outlet of the karst caves of ice becomes simply. The total length of karst caves through which Gegsky Falls is 315 km. Piedmont, where the water mass falls is almost always covered with snow. So, going on a trip to the waterfall, it is wise to bring along warm clothes.

Waterfall in Gagra is a huge success with tourists, as there to shoot some scenes for the Soviet film "Sherlock Holmes" - namely, the scene of the legendary duel between Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty.
