"Our Dynamic Earth" - an unusual museum and research center, located in the historic part of Edinburgh, next to the new Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyrood House. The center was opened in 1999 in the framework of the meeting of the new millennium. The program included the reorganization of territories occupied by industrial enterprises earlier. The roof of this unusual building is a metal membrane stretched on a steel frame, the project was carried out by the architectural firm "Michael Hopkins and Partners."
His main task of the scientific and entertainment center sees to tell visitors about the processes that have shaped our planet. It solved a challenge: how to strike a balance between scientific accuracy and reliability and entertaining form of presentation.
The museum features interactive exhibits, depicting dinosaurs and other extinct animals, the important role of tropical forests and ocean life. From the crater of the volcano visitors are transferred to an ice age.
Part of the exhibition is devoted to forecast of development of the Earth, they are based on real facts and fiction: how dinosaurs looked like now, and our planet in general, if it had not happened that fateful collision of an asteroid with the Earth? Much attention is paid to environmental protection and to what can be a fragile ecosystem and how easily it can be broken.
Museum enjoy visiting both children and adults.
