Historical Museum in the town of Dobrich was founded in 1953. It was created with the aim of studying, preserving and exhibiting cultural and historical heritage of Dobrogea - areas in the north of the Balkan Peninsula, the once united the territory of Bulgaria and Romania.
The emergence of the museum is connected with the names L. Bobcheva, D. and M. Dragnev Dacian. In 1960 the building of the former Casino opened the first museum exhibition. In subsequent years, a collection of artifacts has grown significantly. Through research activities organized by the museum, on the western shore of Lake Durankulashskogo it was discovered and investigated the world's largest prehistoric necropolis; conducted excavations territory of ancient and medieval fortresses, settlements and graves in the town of Balchik, villages Odartsi, Kamen Bryag, on capes Kaliakra Chirakman and so on. d. Currently, the complex is stored in the collections of more than 180 thousand exhibits, including one of the richest in the country and in the Balkans, a collection of prehistoric finds from the archaeological site near the village of Durankulak (5, 3-4 thousand years BC. E.); collection of pottery from the ancient Bulgarian's largest center for the production of ceramics in the village of Topola; Jewels from the necropolis in the village Odartsi; Exhibition of medieval necklaces; collection of icons of the Renaissance in Dobrogea, among them - the biggest in Bulgaria, the number of samples of icons of Saints Cyril and Methodius, and others.
