Another attraction of Cordoba - San Francisco Church, which is one of the so-called "ferdinandovskih" churches, got its name from the fact that they were among the first Christian church built in Cordoba after the reconquest from the Moors by King Ferdinand III. Once the church was built in a part of the 13th century monastery of San Pedro el Real. The monastery, which belonged to the Franciscan religious communities to be pretty close to the time and had a great influence in the religious life of the city. It is known that in the 17th century there lived a hundred monks, and most of its prosperity and influence he has achieved in the 18th century. But in the early 19th century, during the advance of Napoleon's troops the monastery was destroyed, and the church of San Francisco miraculously survived.
Originally created in the Gothic style, today the building of the church of San Francisco is only partly resembles the original structure. Throughout the 18th century the building was restored several times and its facade there are many elements of Baroque, changed substantially medieval appearance of the church.
Today, the Church of San Francisco is not only one of the oldest, but also one of the richest churches in Cordoba. It contains a wealth of cultural values accumulated from the medieval period. There is also an interesting collection of paintings by artists of the 18th century Cordova. It deserves special attention and fine period furniture, situated in the premises of the temple.
