Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum is located on the square in Cordoba Jeronimo Paez in a former palace of Paez de Castillejo.

As often happens with this kind of institutions, Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum of Cordoba during the history of its existence several times changed the place of its location. Initially the museum is a collection of antiquities collected from items seized from the monasteries and is included with the Museum of Fine Arts of Cordoba. The first "home" of museum collections has been Assumption College, then in 1849 they moved to the premises of the Council of grafstva¸ and since 1861 all the museum moved to the building of the Charity Hospital. Since 1920, the museum is located in the Plaza de San Juan. In 1987, the Archaeological Museum with the assistance of Anna Maria Vicente Zaragoza moved to the Palace of Paez de Castillejo, where it is located today.

With the holding of the new excavations, research and replenishment of museum collections was necessary to expand the exhibition space. Within the framework of the city program in 1998, a competition was held to design a new building, designed to expand the museum, which was won by the architectural and engineering group IDOM.

Today the collection of the Archaeological Museum of Cordoba, which presents artifacts of various time periods, starting with the history of the ancient world, are the most complete in Spain. On the basis of the museum operates a library specializing in books and magazines devoted to archeology.
