Argun River - a meandering river mountain, located in the North Caucasus. The length of the river is about 147 km, the total area of ​​the basin is 3390 square meters. km. Argun is part of a large pool of the Terek River and has a mixed diet. Solid freeze-up in the river does not happen. The presence in the forest valley of the river Argun allowed the Chechens to build on its coast of a large number of villages and other dwellings.

River takes its origin from the icy northern slopes of the Caucasus Mountains. Above Chishki villages of Duba-Yurt and the Argun River is formed by the merger of rapid flows like Chant-Argun and Sharo-Argun. Each valley of the two rivers has its charm and its color.

Prior to the plain ("Argun gate") Argun flows through the mountains in the Argun Gorge. The gorge near the source of the river is almost treeless, while below it is covered by continuous forest. Argun River incorporates many mountain streams. The mountainous part of the Argun River basin and its tributaries, occupies the western part of the republic - Shatoi and Itum-Kale district. This area is considered one of the first places of the Chechen settlement. It is characterized by a variety of ruins of ancient villages with traditional buildings in the form of towers.

Leaving the plain, the river runs along the border between Shali and Grozny district to the confluence of the river Sunzha. The valley is populated densely enough. Argun, Chechen Republic in addition, also flows through the territory of Georgia, including in the northeast region of Khevsureti.
