Bosco di San Silvestro, together with the park, the English Garden and Belvedere San Leucho was once part of the royal estates, adjacent to the palace of Reggia di Caserta. This area was part of Bourbon hunting grounds, and partly housed in it farm land. There was the royal court with olive groves, fruit orchards and vegetable gardens, as well as the resting place of the king after the hunt.
King Charles VII acquired the Bosco di San Silvestro back in the mid-18th century. Then the hunting grounds were surrounded by a wall, and in 1797, the year the project of the court architect Francesco Kollechini built house Real Casino: This U-shaped building in the style of Roman villas facing south. In the vast courtyard it was laid out pretty garden. Ground floor intended for processing grapes, wine, butter and cheese, and on the second floor, reached by a stone staircase, were living quarters. During the reign of Francis I in the territory of Real Casino Hanging Gardens were built, and the building was rebuilt.
In 1993, the Bosco di San Silvestro, which spreads over an area of 76 hectares between the hills of Monte and Monte Mayulo Briand, at the initiative of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) was declared a protected area. And next year, there were paved walking trails and the forest was another attraction of Caserta. Pekorera - Bourbon Sheepfold - was turned into a small hotel of 24 rooms with a kitchen and dining room. Old house Casa del Arco has become an eco-friendly House with solar panels and systems for collecting and recycling rainwater. In addition, the territory of the Bosco di San Silvestro arranged several areas for a picnic. The forest itself is represented by holm oaks, olive groves and typical Mediterranean shrubs. On the lawns you can see wild mint and a variety of species of wild orchids. In the trees live nightingales, hoopoe and woodcocks, and wander through the woods foxes, marmots, deer and other animals.
