Photo: Ben Ezra Synagogue
Ben Ezra synagogue architecture does not differ from the standard architecture of Coptic churches. This happened because the building was originally a church, but at the end of X century. Caliph Hakim closed the church. In more recent times the building has redeemed the Jewish community, which at that time was a significant part of Egyptian society. The synagogue was named after Rabbi Abraham ben Ezra Jerusalem.
Famous synagogue that in the XIX century, during the renovation, there was discovered a treasure trove of documents with thousands of XI-XII centuries.
Recently restored synagogue.
