On the left bank of the river Arlanzón close to the town is the Museum of the Cathedral of Burgos. The museum was founded in 1846 and many times changed its location. In the mid-20th century, its collections were moved to a magnificent old mansion Casa de Miranda, where they are located today. The very house was built in 1545 in the style of the Renaissance to the Canon de Miranda.
Today the Museum of Burgos is represented by two departments - Archaeology and Fine Arts . Archaeological department occupies premises house the Casa de Miranda, and the Department of Fine Arts, located in the adjacent to the mansion palace Casa de Angulo, also erected in the Renaissance style . Archaeological museum collection includes artifacts related to prehistory, antiquity and the early Middle Ages . Here you can see fragments of sculptures and household items found during excavations of ancient Roman settlement Clooney, ancient Roman mosaics and glass products . There are also exhibits of the early Christian era and Visigoth period . These are fragments of bas-reliefs, sarcophagi, household items and much more . The exhibits drawn from the collections department of Fine Arts, relate primarily to the Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance periods . This sculpture, weapons, jewelry, altars, tombs, and other items retablo . A separate exhibition features works by Spanish artists ages 17-18, as well as sculptors and painters of Spain, who worked in the 19-20 centuries .
