Natural monument under the open sky, located in the district of Bashkortostan Sterlitamak, a scenic four high hill, forming a narrow chain stretched for twenty kilometers along the White River, united by one common name - Shikhany. At the foot of the mountain massif lies a beautiful lake Arakul.

Formation of mountains occurred in ancient times, when the territory of Bashkortostan was the ocean, and Shikhany reefs as evidenced by the numerous geological excavations. Deposits of various periods in the limestone layers of mountains over time more and more attracted to researchers and scientists. Artifacts found in Shikhany, replenish the collection of the best museums in the country.

The structure Sterlitamaksky massif consists of four mountains single: Sheehan - Yuraktau (338 m above sea level), which has mountain springs, Sheehan - Kushtan (357 m - altitude), which has three peaks and steep western slope, Sheehan - Shahtau (336 m. above sea level), in which the layers are fossilized shells of marine animals and shellfish prints, Sheehan - Tratau or Toratau (absolute height of which reaches 402 m.), has the correct form of a truncated cone. Since the mid-twentieth century Shikhany became a place of extraction of raw materials for the production association "Soda" and, later, oil was discovered here.

Today Shikhany natural monument - is a picturesque tourist attraction region and the pride of Bashkortostan as a whole. In winter time Shikhany running a ski resort.
