Cathedral of the Holy Virgin in the city of Barnaul - the current Orthodox church. In 2004, the majestic Cathedral celebrated its 100th anniversary. However, the history of its occurrence out in the middle of the XIX century. That's when the local authorities decided to build a new house in the town of Znamenskiy temple, an old wooden church, named in honor of the holy and righteous Zechariah and Elizabeth, disassemble, and on its plan to build the church of the Holy Virgin. In 1860, construction work began. Intercession Church was built in a relatively short time. The ceremonial consecration of the church took place in August 1863

The temple is located in the poorest part of the city. The temple has four thrones. The first throne - the Holy Virgin, the second was consecrated in honor of St. Alexander Nevsky, the third - the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon, and the fourth - in honor of the Holy St. Seraphim. The interior of the cathedral was painted on dry plaster with oil paints in the 1918-1928 biennium. with the participation of the artist N. Shvareva.

In April 1939 the church was closed, but not destroyed. Only the bell tower was demolished and a cross on the dome, and the building was used as a warehouse. Worship in the temple resumed in January 1944, at the time, he was the only active church in the city that was the reason for turning it into a cathedral. In 1993, the temple bell tower reappeared.
