Palace of Catalan Music - is a famous concert hall in Barcelona, another outstanding work of modernist architect Domenech Lewis-and-Montarera. This beautiful building was built in the period between 1905 and 1908 and intended for Choral Society, founded in 1891 and had a great cultural influence in Barcelona. Palace of Music is located in Ribera, its elegant, gorgeous and striking views, contrasting it stands out among other seemingly commonplace gray buildings. Today, the palace is part of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On the one hand, the Palace looks typical of the modern age, but on the other hand - it is dominated by the functional and rational methods and solutions. The facade is striking decor, original motifs and forms, an amazing combination of materials and stylistic elements. The rich decoration of the facade used red brick, iron, tiles, glazed tiles, stained glass. Striking beauty of execution sculptures and bas-reliefs and busts of composers adorn the facade. Surprisingly nice looking tower on the second floor, each of which is covered by its multicolored glazed tiles. Many used glass in the facade.
But the main asset of the Palace is its concert hall, which is considered one of the most beautiful not only in Europe but throughout the world. This is the only room in Europe, until late at night lit only by natural light thanks to its walls that consist almost entirely of unusually beautiful arched stained glass windows, and the roof space is a huge glass dome. It is impossible not to note the excellent acoustics of the hall, which were appreciated by the famous, composers, conductors and musicians. The interior of the hall is decorated with beautiful sculptures and bas-reliefs complicated. All of this stunning splendor gives the full right to be called the Palace of Catalan Music a true masterpiece of modernism.
