Frederic Mares Museum was opened in 1948 in one of the buildings belonging to the complex of the Grand Royal Palace, which is located in the heart of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. Previously, for many years, this building housed a convent. Initially the museum occupied four rooms. On the 70th, 20 th century museum's collection has increased greatly, and he is greatly expanded to its present-day size.
The initiator of the museum and its founder - a collector and sculptor Frederic Mares, who all his life collecting various items. Its collection and served as the basis of the museum collection. There are extremely interesting displays that make up the so-called Sentimental Museum - is everyday objects. Here you can find a collection of smoking pipes, fans, labels from cigars, coins, combs, playbills, binoculars, lottery tickets, and even children's toys of different years. No one knows how many of these objects are interested in at the time the collector Mares, but always surprising, interesting and touching to see them, knowing that they once belonged to someone and may have had some special value to this man.
