Mount Musala - the highest point on the map, not only in Bulgaria and the Balkans, but also in Eastern Europe as a whole. Altitude Musala stands at almost three thousand meters - 2925. Addition Mountain - Paleozoic granite, cut granitporfirnymi veins. The terrain is a mountain glacier.

The name of the mountain is connected with the Turkish period in Bulgaria and literally "Moose Allah" can be translated as "prayer peak" or "closeness to Allah." However, in the period from 1949 to 1962. the mountain was called in honor of Josef Stalin - the peak of Stalin.

Located Musala in the Rila National Reserve, famous for its rare species of plants (for example, grow here Bulgarian spruce and Macedonian pine). At the foot of the mountain rivers Iskar, Maritsa and Places. Distance from Sofia - about 80 kilometers.

In addition, undeveloped river valley ski resort of Borovets. For tourists there are 18 routes with a total length - 40 km. Each of the tracks, regardless of the complexity, equipped with modern lifts and funiculars, the capacity of which at least 10 million passengers every hour.

Walking route to the top of Borovets will take about 7 hours, will have to overcome 10 kilometers - this way is considered the best for beginners. On the mountain is also equipped with "the cabin lift", which is a lift with cabins. With it, visitors can access to special databases, which are located at altitudes of 1790 meters and 2362 meters.

At the top of the mountain is located meteorological station of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
