Casa Mila - this is the last outstanding civil engineering Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, he created before his work on the famous Sagrada Familia. House Casa Mila was built in the period from 1906 to 1910 at the intersection of the streets Passeig de Gracia and the Carré de Provence.
Project home Casa Mila abounds truly innovative ideas, chief among which was the fact that all the main burden falls on the frame of the building, and the interior had a free plan. Gaudi himself once said that La Pedrera can be easily converted into a hotel by its flexible layout. These principles are widely spread and the widespread use later in the architecture. In addition, the project developed a unique home ventilation system, there is an underground garage. Initially, the project provides for Gaudi elevators in the building, which in the course of construction were not included, they have established much later. Like all buildings of Gaudi, Casa Mila has a patio, thanks to which it is possible to provide all the interior of the house with natural light.
The facade is entirely curved, flexible and smooth lines. Externally, the house looks extraordinary and quite rough, so barselontsev immediately nicknamed him La Pedrera, which translates as "the quarry". At the same time it is impossible not to note the quirkiness, the originality and the unusual beauty of wrought-iron balconies and window protections, made master of Josep Maria Zhuzholem, many of which were created with the direct participation of Gaudi. But the most striking and surprising "sculpture garden", created on the roof of this extraordinary home.
In 1984 La Pedrera was the first of the XX century buildings included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
