Casa Amalia - is one of the three most beautiful buildings in Barcelona in the Art Nouveau style, located in the "Quarter differences", named so because of the great stylistic inconsistencies in the architecture of the buildings are here. Two other well-known buildings, adjacent to Casa Amalia - is Casa Batllo Gaudí and Casa Leo Morera architect Domenech-and-Montarera.
Building Casa Amalia has been redesigned by the architect Josep Puig i-Kadafalka. In 1898 the house was bought by the family confectioner Antonio Amal, and the famous modernist master Puig-and-Kadafalk spent redevelop the now famous mansion, its decoration and finishing, which were completed by 1900.
This luxurious house with an extraordinary façade intertwined several architectural trends. The author uses the methods of the Catalan Gothic style, which coexist with the Flemish and Byzantine stylistic elements.
The extraordinary beauty of the arch, stepped gable, the input having two openings of different sizes, wrought iron elements, as well as its excellent original bas-reliefs decorating the facade - all this gives the building a unique and luxurious look.
Since 1960 and currently occupies the upper floors of the building of the Spanish Institute of Art, part of the premises located in the large library. On the ground floor there is a lovely shop selling chocolate.
Decree of January 9, 1976 mansion once belonged to Antonio Amal, it was awarded the title of Catalan national historical monument.
