Negros Museum, located in the city of Bacolod - an obligatory stop on a journey to the Philippine island of Negros. After all, this is where you can touch the rich history of the island and its cultural heritage and see the work of local artists. The museum's collections are divided into thematic exhibitions, exhibited in several galleries.
On the ground floor there is a gallery of folk art and toys, which stores more than three thousand of the traditional toys, collected not only on the island of Negros, but in other parts of the world. This is the only collection in the Philippines this kind. There is nothing surprising in the fact that this exhibition is very popular among children. By the way, for the children in the museum is also a children's library and a playground where they can learn the basics of folk art - painting, sculpting, pottery.
On the second floor you can see the reconstruction of "batila" - a wooden ship that was used for transportation of passengers and cargo in the early 20th century. There are samples of goods, which at that time were transported between Negros and nearby islands.
Among other interesting exhibits of the museum - a collection dedicated to the sugar industry, "Iron Dinosaurs" - vintage steam locomotives, 50 boats belonging to different tribes of the island artifacts depicting the life of the Chinese community in Negros, etc. In one of the galleries can be found on the former governor of the island and of what they have left a trace in the history of the province and Bacolod. A separate exposition is devoted to Nicholas Loney, who almost single-handedly created the sugar industry on Negros, who later became one of the main sources of income of the island.
Negros Museum was established in the early 1980s, but only got its own building in 1996. The building itself is also a historic landmark - it was built in the mid-1920s. The project worked Leandro Loksin building, one of the greatest architects of the Philippines. Immediately after completion of the construction has been recognized as a masterpiece and decoration Bacolod.
