Azhdahak volcano - the highest point of the ridge Gagemskogo. Its height - 3597 meters above sea level.

Azhdahak is a truncated cone with a crater of an extinct volcano where the clear mountain lake, whose depth reaches 90 meters. The lake is fed by glacial melt water, why it is so transparent that even at great depth, you can count all the stones on the bottom.

In Armenian mythology Azhdahak - man-dragon (Vishaps) - a legendary creature, guardian of the whole of this beautiful country. Vishaps live high in the sky, but sometimes descend into the depths of the lake, while emitting a deafening roar, and sweeping away everything in its path.

Ancient myths are reflected in the mysterious petroglyphs that confirm that the man lived in Gagemskih mountains in ancient times. They can still be seen on the surrounding stones and rocks. Scientists around the world are fighting hard to unravel their meaning, but the figures still keep their secret.

In the summer of organized groups of tourists are taken by car to the very foot. Climbing the Azhdahak takes only 6-8 hours for tourists moderate training. From the top of the volcano with breathtaking views of the mountains Atis, Azhdahak, Aaragats and Ara, as well as the famous water of Lake Sevan.

On the slopes Azhdahak grows stunted unique alpine flora, beautiful that you hardly saw something. Delicate small flowers filtering through the rocks, emerald carpet of alpine herbs, blue, fields blooming gentian. In the sky above the crater of the volcano soaring birds of prey, filling the prevailing silence their cries.
