It happened in 1799, when the Russian army defeated the French troops, and it was only possible thanks to the strategic talent Suvorov.

On the centenary of this great event in 1899, the tsarist government had asked for permission to install the Swiss monument to Generalissimo, and the most appropriate place for it felt the gorge at Devil's Bridge.
