Life Netherlands is largely dependent on the sea, the Dutch have always been famous as a beautiful and courageous seafarers. Therefore, in the capital of the Netherlands could not appear Maritime Museum, which tells the history of seafaring.

Since 1973, the museum is located in the former Arsenal of the Admiralty, built in 1656. This time is called the Golden Age - when Amsterdam was the largest port, the most important center of international trade. The Arsenal kept a gun, ammunition, sails, flags and other equipment for the Navy. Today, after 350 years, Arsenal makes us the same awesome experience. In the early 2000s, the museum was carried out extensive reconstruction since old building did not meet modern museum standards.

The museum tells the history of seafaring is not only in the Netherlands, but throughout Europe. Its exposition is presented in several sections. One of them talks about the Golden Age of Dutch history - and that it would have been impossible without the sea and seafaring. Another section is devoted to the history of whaling, the next - the history of the port of Amsterdam. Section "dark pages" tells the story of the slave trade, and the section "Sal, Lori and Marine Circus" is designed for the youngest museum visitors - up to 6 years.

In the museum you can see the paintings on the marine theme, old maps, tools and ship decoration.

Next to the museum is moored ship - a copy of the cargo ship "Amsterdam", similar to that in the XVIII century voyages from the Netherlands to the West Indies.
