The central area of Aachen - standing meeting place for townspeople of all kinds of events and the beginning of the tourist routes in the city. It is located on the spot where once stood the imperial palace, and today it was only by a small Chapel of Charlemagne, which became the main complex of the Cathedral of Aachen, but the eastern tower of the town hall - Granusturm.
The name of the square, probably comes from the phrase "cat's yard» - «katzhof», and certainly it is related to pillory which stood on the area until the late 16th century. The main feature of this area is that it has a certain size: 100 meters long and 40 wide - is not just a whim of Architects, and the size of the courtyard of the palace, which had previously stood here and in whose foundation is now firmly Hall.
Katchhof - it is a historical monument and a place for all kinds of urban activities ranging from sports competitions and ending with Christmas and Easter markets. I wonder what Aachen Fair, which opens in the run up to Christmas, is one of the most interesting in the country and in the old Europe as a whole. In 2006 it was held the last of all reconstructions, which gave Aachen area in its present form.
The event, which took place in 2009, making the area even more Katchhof known: she went into a pan-European project called "The Way of Charlemagne" and is included in the routes that are laid for the lovers, and the history of the life of this ruler.
