History Museum of Armenia (the original name - The State Historical Museum of Armenia) is located on the central square of Yerevan - the Republic Square. In the museum visitors are a wide number of different exhibits on the history and culture of Armenia.

History Museum of Armenia was founded in 1921 in conjunction with the National Gallery of Armenia. Museum and Art Gallery, housed in the same building of the museum complex.

A rich collection of artifacts housed in the museum, covers quite a long period of time, starting from the Stone Age to modern. In total there are about 400 thousand. Items included in various exhibitions. The exposition of the National History Museum of Armenia consists of several departments: archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic department, department of historical architecture, and the department of new and modern history of the Republic.

The most extensive collection of the exhibits housed in the Archaeological Department and the Department of Numismatics, their share, based on the total number of museum exhibits, approximately 35% and 45%, respectively. Department of historical documents, which contain information about the architecture and new stories, covers 12%. The smallest department of the museum is the ethnographic department, items which cover approximately 8% of the total value of the museum.

Especially popular in the museum enjoys a rich collection of bronze articles dating from II and III century BC. In addition, there are stored unique artifacts of the state in the Middle East - Urartu. These include cuneiform and wall inscriptions, bronze statues, pottery with decorations, a collection of weapons with sculptures made of ivory, silver and gold. Another unique exhibition History Museum of Armenia - a collection of coins, which were issued during the period from III century. BC to the XIV century. AD in different countries that previously existed on the territory of modern Armenia.
