Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral - the largest temple, located on the territory of Yerevan. Along with Sameba Cathedral in Tbilisi, he is considered the largest in the South Caucasus.

Cathedral of St. Gregory the Illuminator was built in honor of the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity in Armenia. This temple is a place of relics, which are connected with Gregory the Illuminator. They were brought here from the city of Naples.

Construction of the cathedral began in 1997. The initiator of its construction became Karekin I. The architect of the church was made by S. Kyurkchyan. In September 2001, he was held a ceremony of consecration of the cathedral.

Cathedral complex consists of three churches - the Church of St. Tiridates, Church of the Holy Queen Ashkhen and of the cathedral. The main temple complex was built on the donations of Alex Manoogian family. Financing the construction of two other churches involved in family Gevorgyan and Nazarenes. Construction of the bell tower has financed Eduardo Eurnekian. The total area of ​​about 3822 square meters. m, height of the cathedral from the ground to the uppermost part of the Cross - 54 m.

Geometric shapes, contours and strict characteristic Cathedral reserved paint make the building unique. Inside the cathedral is very bright and spacious, no murals, very few icons on the walls and ceiling are arches and niches. A bit long and narrow windows are decorated with beautiful stained glass windows.
