On the shores of the lake lie the capital of Epirus - Ioannina and the small town of Perama, and the remaining area is occupied by farmland. You should definitely visit the located near the north shore of Lake Ioannina small picturesque island, where the legendary Ali Pasha Tepelensky (Ioannina) hides in the last days of his reign, and was killed. In recent years, urbanization and pollution adversely affect the ecosystem of the lake, which is home to small mammals, waterfowl, and various species of fish and crustaceans.
