Wroclaw Zoo - the oldest and largest (according to number of animals) zoo in Poland, founded in 1865. The zoo covers an area of ​​30 hectares. The zoo is home to over 7,100 animals representing over 850 species. The zoo is an accredited member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).

The idea of ​​building a zoo owned by the Mayor of Wroclaw Elvanzheru Julia, who in 1862 began to gather the necessary funds. Most of the buildings in the garden were built by architect Charles Schmidt in the eclectic style. The opening of the Zoo took place three years later, since the zoo was working all the time to close only twice: after World War I in the years 1921-1927, and from April 1945 to July 18, 1948.

In 2007, having won the competition, the new director of the zoo became Radoslav Radoszhak. He immediately began to upgrade the garden to improve the living conditions of the animals, and its development. Opened a new enclosure for brown bears, the island of Lemuria and the Butterfly House. In August 2010, the zoo was born pygmy hippopotamus, which was a real highlight of the year!

In April 2012, the aquarium was built, brought new rare species of animals. Currently, the zoo is home to over 1500 Wroclaw birds, reptiles 1700 2600 fish (108 species), more than 600 birds (154 species).
