Polish Army Museum - the museum in Warsaw devoted to the military history of Poland. It is the second largest museum of the country after the National Museum.
The museum was founded in 1920 by the Supreme Commander in Chief Jozef Pilsudski. He was appointed director Bronislaw Gembarzevski - a prominent military historian and museum expert.
In 1939, the museum's collection has had more than 60 thousand exhibits that during the German occupation were taken to Germany. In 1946, the museum has returned only 40 thousand exhibits, 20 thousand had not been found.
Permanent exhibition of the museum shows the history of the Polish Army, including the collection of weapons from the Middle Ages until the 18th century, works of art, books, documents and precious photos. In the museum you can see the guns, planes and armored vehicles during the First and Second World Wars on display in the museum courtyard. Of particular interest are: the true seat of Napoleon I, dating back to the Egyptian campaign, a collection of personal items of Tadeusz Kosciuszko, and armor of the Polish kings, the 17th century by Jan Mail Kozimira, Stanislaw August Poniatowski sword, mace 17th century Hetman Stalislava Yablonovsky.
In 2014, the museum should move to Warsaw Citadel - Russian fortress built in the 19th century. An architectural design competition was won by the new museum WXCA.
