Archipelago of Juan Fernandez is located in the Pacific Ocean, 670 km off the coast of Chile. Spaniard Juan Fernandez first discovered the islands at the end of 1574. They were called Mas-a-Fuera, Mas a Tierra and Santa Clara. In 1966, the first two of the island was renamed Alejandro Selkirk and Robinson Crusoe, respectively.

Robinson Crusoe Island became inhabited in 1877. The local population of the island is about 640 people. Almost all live in the capital of San Juan Bautista and the coast of the northern district of the island, in the Bay of Cumberland - they are engaged in maritime fishing and tourist service.

On the island of Santa Clara live 20 fishermen during the fishing season lobster from October to May.

Archipelago Juan Fernandez visits the few tourists because You can get to the island only by plane, waiting for his full load of 10 people. Airport is not here, only the runway, which is located on the peninsula of Punta Truenos, and from there to sail in a small boat to San Juan Bautista for about two hours, or sail to the island by boat plying once a month, or cruise liner.

You can sail on the tour boat to go fishing, catch tuna, sea bass, lobster and horse mackerel. You can climb to the top of the island Mirador de Selkirk or Gray-El Yunque height of 915 m, to explore the spectacular scenery around. You will see very contrasting scenery: deserted beach and bright emerald slopes on which the vines grow impenetrable, tall trees, ferns and various shrubs. On these islands inhabited by goats, which are called by the name of the archipelago - goat Juan Fernandez. Earlier this subspecies of goats was home, and eventually became wild.

Currently, the archipelago Juan Fernandez is a Biosphere Reserve and is under UNESCO protection.
