Church of the Holy Spirit - the Roman Catholic church located in Torun. Until 1945, he was a Lutheran church, and then passed into the hands of the Jesuits.

The need to build a new church in Torun was born as a result of the effects of religious clashes between Catholics and Protestants, which erupted in the city in July 1724. After collecting the funds in the city and abroad, including in Germany, England and Denmark, the father of Andrzej Krzysztof Henryk announced a competition for the design of a new church. In 1741, work was chosen the young architect from Dresden Adam Andreas Bach.

Construction work began two years later, but they were soon interrupted by the unfavorable socio-political situation. Against the construction advocated radical Catholics. As a result, King Augustus III issued a ban on the construction of the church, fearing the emergence of new religious clashes. In 1754, permission was given to build a humble house of worship, which was not to annoy Catholics and could not resembles a church. So there was a need for a new architectural design.
