The Archaeological Museum was opened in 1963. The collection consists of items found during excavations in the city and throughout Macedonia. Exposure external halls built in chronological order: Neolithic, Classical Greece, the Roman period mosaic of Hellenistic culture. In the interior halls are exhibited finds from Sindos.

In 1980 the museum was made an extension, which exhibited excellent gold jewelry of ancient Macedonia, including objects found during excavations of the ancient necropolis. Here you can see the finest work of golden wreaths, caskets with the famous multi-Macedonian star on the cover, a gold bracelet dating from the III century BC and much more. Special attention should be Derveni Krater - a bronze vessel III century BC with dancing figures of maenads and satyrs.
