The central area of Teplice, once cited as the Market and is used for various folk festivals and fairs, now known as Freedom Square.

In the Middle Ages in the center adorned Renaissance Town Hall and the fountain, which was used to collect drinking water. In 1793 the town hall burnt down and no longer be restored. You could clear the area for construction of a new city hall, but the city authorities decided to leave the center of the square and a free transfer to the Town Hall is one of the houses on the north side. In place of the old bourgeois houses, repurchased magistrate built a new building in the neoclassical style. Already in 1806 the local authorities had entered into a new City Hall. It is now used for administrative purposes.

Instead of an old fountain at the beginning of XIX century set the statue of Our Lady.

Almost all of the original house, the surrounding area, were destroyed. Instead, now you can see the multi-storey houses, built in the classical style. To the right of the Town Hall in 1885 he was elevated to another house, which belonged to the magistrate. A little later he took the Czech Savings Bank. Houses on the west side of the square in the 60s of XX century were demolished and in their place were modern buildings, which houses the post office and the Telecentre. In the south of the area of Freedom in 1986, it was built a futuristic building where the shop is located «Prior».

This reconstruction of the area did not like many of the townspeople. However, according to the architects responsible for the transformation of the city, this area has become more spacious, and the corresponding status of a modern resort.
