City Hall in Szeged - an eclectic neo-baroque building in the central square of the city. Its foundation was laid in 1799 under the guidance of architects and Janos Istvan Vedres Shvortsa. In 1883, after the flood the building was rebuilt on the original foundations according to the project Odon Lechner and Gyula Partos. City Hall is connected with the adjacent House of the Soviets "Bridge of Sighs" - a gallery built for the visit of Franz Joseph in 1883, when the emperor came to evaluate the results of the grandiose 1879 flood. During his stay in Szeged quarters of the king and his companions were in different buildings, a bridge connecting two buildings for the convenience of communication.
The building is interesting for its beautiful stained glass windows and ornaments adorning the staircase. One of them kept saying, probable authorship of which belongs to Franz Joseph: "Szeged will be great than has ever been before!"
The walls are decorated with paintings by the Soviets. and the ceiling - frescoes Zsigmondy Wajda. In summer, the cozy courtyard Hall are chamber concerts and musical evenings.
