Among the many temples of the Greek island of Skiathos special attention certainly deserves the monastery of Panagia Kehre. It is located in the northwestern part of the island, about 8 km from the administrative center of the island of Skiathos Town and is an important historical and architectural monument of the post-Byzantine period. Today, the monastery of Panagia Kehre is administered by the 7th Department of Byzantine Antiquities.

Monastery of Panagia Kehre dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. The temple is situated on a picturesque pine trees and olive trees hill, from the top of which offers superb panoramic views of the vast expanses of the Aegean sea and the bay Kehre. Actually Kehre from the beach and begins the road leading to the monastery.

Unfortunately, to this day from the monastery complex, leaving only the main KATHOLIKON. The monastery, as we see it today was built in the 18th century on the site of an ancient temple, dating presumably 16th century. The interior of the temple is replete with quite well-preserved ancient frescos that represent high artistic and historical value. A very interesting and carved wooden iconostasis.

Today, the monastery of Panagia Kehre is one of the main attractions of the island of Skiathos. Despite some "isolation" and a few exhausting uphill, which will undoubtedly enrich the magnificent scenery and extremely relaxing and comfortable atmosphere of an ancient temple, he is very popular among tourists.
