In the summer of 2008 in the city of Sevastopol was a monument to Catherine II. By the day of foundation of the city (225 years) in bronze statue of the empress she took her place on Catherine Street (now it is Lenin Street).

Authors sculpture - Stanislav Chizh, together with the architect Gregory Grigor'yants - applied for his masterpiece different materials. The idea to erect a monument to Queen appeared at the city council of veterans. In 1997, the authors prepared a draft of the monument, and it was presented to the general public. Residents of the town expressed their approval on the issue. Because of the high cost and some political reasons the project has been translated into reality only in 2008.
