Mihelboyern Abbey - Benedictine monastery located in Dorfbeuern 30 kilometers north of Salzburg.

At the site of the monastery there was a monastic cell back in the year 736, as stated in the register of the monastery. After the Hungarian War, in 977, after the donation of Emperor Otto II started construction of the monastery. The consecration took place July 18, 1072, and the first known abbot of the monastery was Verigand (1072-1100 gg.). Crisis period for the monastery became a fire that occurred in 1364.

Since the 17th century, the Abbey Mihelboyern began a period of prosperity, which led to an ambitious construction works. In particular, the baroque altar was built in 1691 by architect Johann Michael Rottmayera. This period was the flourishing of education and science education. More than 25 monks from the abbey taught at the University of Salzburg. Abbey also took over pastoral duties are many in the surrounding parishes. Since 1641 the monastery became a member of the Congregation of Salzburg. Under the direction of the abbot Anton Moser was restored library, and in 1771 in the hall of frescoes were created by Franz Nicholas.

During the National Socialist period, schools and churches were closed, and the monks were expelled. Back to the abbey monks could only after the Second World War, and the abbey church was consecrated again in 1950.

Today the monastery is a thriving community of Benedictine, is known as an educational and cultural center. The monks work in the school, the abbey has a different business: farm, factory heating share in the brewery. The current rector is Perkmann Johannes, who was elected in 2006.
