The first church on this site was built in the VIII century. Numerous adjustment and fire resulted in the fact that in 1598, the archbishop ordered to erect a new church designed by the architect Santino Solari.

The new cathedral was consecrated in 1628godu and is the standard Baroque art. The facade of the cathedral is decorated with figures of two patrons of the city - St. And St. Virgil. Rupert, as well as figures of two apostles - Peter and Paul. Two 79-meter tower is framed facade of the cathedral with three bronze doors. The interior of the cathedral is richly decorated. Preserved bronze baptismal font of the XIV century, which was baptized a little Mozart.
