Mound Savkins - is a small village and settlement, located on the banks of the river Soroti 1 km from the famous Mikhailovskoye the estate of Pushkin. Today the fort is part of the territory of the Museum-Reserve of AS Pushkin. Ancient city is named so because it is situated on Savkina Mountain, which has a geometric shape, and the correct form of rays, which indicates that the hill was created artificially. On top of the hill it is passing along the mountain road, which is so typical for this kind of fortification. From the highest point of the hill offers a beautiful view over the estate, park, meadows, as well as Peter the lake.

Just across the river Soroti offers a wonderful view of the village called Dedovtsy, which is wiped by the old road to the city of Pskov. On the hill, or rather with his left hand, during a stay in these places Pushkin, located Deriglazova manor owned by landlords Shelgunova names that consist of friendly relations with the parents of the great poet NO and AS Pushkin.

According to archaeological sources, the first settlement appeared in this place in the 9th century and lasted until the 16th century. At this time, the Livonian War raged, and the whole area was literally devastated by the soldiers of the Stefan Batory. There is an assumption that before the Livonian War in the area located adjacent to the fortifications of the city Voronich. It is believed that in ancient times there was a St. Michael's Monastery Fortresses, hence the name of St. Michael.

To date, it confirmed that in the early years of this century, at Mount Savkina was dilapidated chapel, which has now been restored .  Also at the top of the mountain there are stone crosses, which were moved here from other places .  The pedestal of one of the crosses made of granite, which stands next to the chapel, there is an inscription on it as a date that corresponds to contemporary chronology, 1513 .  Cross, located on a pedestal that is not original, and it is made of sandstone, and then was set in the 20th century .  Another cross was placed on one of the mass graves of Russian soldiers who gave their lives on this land, fighting against foreign invaders .  It is known that the village Savkins was named after the legendary and the greatest priest named Sawa .  The village was burned by German troops in 1944 .  Today, in its place is the village, designed for the employees of the Pushkin Museum-Reserve .

The area where today is the village Savkins, previously was called Safronov wasteland and is administered by a peasant from the village Steymaki that was located in a less than a mile from the famous Svyatogorsk monastery, close to the side of the city Novorzhev. Most likely, the farmer called Safronov, although of the same name was called AM Vyndomskogo, who was an attorney Trigorskoe. It is believed that in his honor and was named Heath, it covers an area of 30 hectares. The eastern side of the wasteland bordered a small lake Malenets and its flowrate of the river Soroti. On the south side Safronov wasteland limited so-called "road washed out by rain." In the past, this place was called "The curves of pine."

It is worth noting that Savkins was one of the favorite destinations of Alexander Pushkin. This place attracts the poet its beauty and ease, as well as the incredible charm of antiquity. At heart, Pushkin had one wish - to get this piece of paradise, which at the time belonged to small landowners by name Zateplinskie.

Alexander repeatedly visited Savkins at most at a time when all his desires were directed only one goal - to leave the stuffy atmosphere of the city of St. Petersburg, to break out of his will. But the poet's dream was not to be fulfilled, even to the very end of his life he really wanted to live in this cozy, quiet and peaceful place.
