Church of Saint-Pierre de Chaillot immediately catches the eye: its gates topped with a huge multi-level relief tympanum-Henri Bouchard's work, depicting episodes in the life of St. Peter. The powerful 62-meter tall bell tower dominates the surrounding neighborhoods.
The small church, also dedicated to St. Peter, stood on this spot from the XI century. In the XVII century it was expanded in 1922 to her funeral of Marcel Proust. But in the thirties of the last century, the old church was demolished - in the area started construction of a new church, designed by architect Emile Bois.
Author of the project used the ideas of Byzantine architecture: building in the shape of a Greek cross, the dome is surrounded by four octagonal central pyramid. As the main structural material applied Bois reinforced concrete - it is possible to organically combine surfaces of different shapes from triangles to the octahedra. This Bois deliberately refused to trim the rough concrete surface: brutal invoice serves as a contrasting background for a number of murals, sculptures, stained-glass windows.
The building consists of three main parts: a square plan bell tower, "Lower Church", located in the crypt (there is an altar dedicated to the fallen in the fields of the First World) and "Upper Church", topped with domes. Huge powerful structure something like a medieval castle.
The interior of the church is literally amazing huge frescos that performed the artist from Alsace Nicolas Untershtiller. Master sketches engraved directly on the walls and write directly on the concrete. On multifigure frescoes depict symbols of the spiritual life of the Church. The small windows shine very bright stained glass work Momezhan brothers. Statues of the Virgin and Child and of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, located in the transept of the church (the work of Henri Bouchard), unusual gilded. Henri Bouchard also performed an altar for the chapel of the Holy Family, which shows how Jesus sent his apostles to give people the Good News.
In the chapel of the Virgin Mary parishioners kneel before Our Lady of Chaillot, a carved wooden statue of the XVIII century. That's all that's left is the ancient church, demolished at the beginning of the last century.
