Church of Saint Dominique, located in the former suburb of Saint-Jacques, is different from most Parisian temples of its Roman-Byzantine architecture. The ancient form of the Church should not be misleading: it is no more and the century.

The territory of the parish of St. Dominic has a rich religious history. It was here that the famous XVII century abbess Maria Angelica Arnaud, Abbess of Port-Royal de Shan, founded the "daughter" monastery - Port Royal Paris. The monastery, a stronghold of Jansenism, at the beginning of the XVIII century was destroyed by royal decree, the Port-Royal in Paris revolution became a prison, and then the hospital. In the period of urban reform Haussmann building was demolished. At the end of the XIX century the area intensively developed, put on the agenda the construction of the new church, designed by architect George Godibera.

Construction began on the eve of World War I and lasted eight years. For any really old Parisian church - very quickly. In fact, Saint Dominic would be built much faster, if not break on war: Georges Godiber concrete structures are applied, can dramatically speed up construction. This is one of the first churches in Paris, created by the technology of the XX century.

Devoted to the Church a great preacher of the XIII century St. Dominic Guzman. Began his mission to fight against the Albigensian heresy, St. Dominic founded the Order of Friars Preachers, aimed at evangelical poverty to preach the word of God. Order of the Dominicans gave to the Church many outstanding scholars, scientists, writers. Dominican contemplative spirituality in all ages combined with talented and passionate preaching, selfless pastoral ministry.

Above the gates of the church is the bas-relief depicting the prayer of St. Dominic. Heavenly patron assigned portrait features a French director and actor Louis Jouvet - he became a model for the sculptor Andre Burro, lepivshego relief. Louis Jouvet died on stage during a dress rehearsal of the play of Graham Greene's "The Power and the Glory" - the actor played the role of a Catholic priest who went to their death for the sake of performance pastoral duties.

The fresco depicts the work of Paul Sharavelya baptism of St. Dominic, Dominican ceiling caissons decorated with crosses and roses. One of the columns is a statue of the saint works Debera - patron saint of the church is holding a rosary and a book.
