The small town of Hlinsko was founded on the banks of rapid river Chrudimka at the foot of two mountain systems in the XI century. These places were very rich in deposits of clay, so the founders and the first inhabitants of the town were the potters, who in honor of the material, to give them the means to live, and called their city.

So far in Hlinsko can see ancient craftsmen's workshops. They gathered in a sort of open-air museum, which is located on the right bank of the river is called Bethlehem. Wooden houses painted in bright colors, looks quite unusual for a modern city.

For the first time in written sources of Hlinsko mentioned in the XIV century. That's when the town acquired the Prince of the genus Rychmburk. Hlinsko several times changed its owners. Among them are Bishop Arnošt of Pardubice, gentlemen Kinsky and others.

In 1834 the rule of the aristocracy on the territory of Hlinsko comes to an end, and the town gets freedom. In XX century, it is not just a provincial Czech town - one of the thousands, and industrial center of the region.

Tourists will not regret visiting Hlinsko. This city is almost rebuilt, so to this day preserved ancient buildings, such as the fortress, built in the XIV century. It dates back to the XVIII century Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, which was built on the site of a wooden church in 1350. City Hall, located in the central square, was built in the Baroque style. This lush, eye-catching building, dominates the area.

Art Gallery Hlinsko boasts a large collection of sculptures of the famous local master Karel Lidice. Here you can also see a collection of historical costumes and paintings by artists born in the Pardubice region.
