The Storting, or Norwegian parliament was established May 17, 1814 to the date of adoption of the Constitution, which is the main national holiday in Norway.

The building, which houses Parliament, located opposite the Royal Palace and has a circular shape with wings on the sides. It was built in Neo-Romanesque style in 1866, designed by Swedish architect E. Langlet. An interesting fact is that his project was not considered for the official competition, they even had to pick a winner. However, the drawings are so Langlet came to taste the Commission, that in the end it was he was awarded the victory. Construction took 5 years and was completed in 1866.

Guard Storting sculpture of two lions made prisoner talented Akershus Fortress - Christopher Borja. He was sentenced to death, however, this work has saved his life - he was pardoned.

Currently, the Norwegian parliament and 169 deputies, representatives of seven parties. The biggest number of seats in the Storting -Social Democratic Labor Party, which occupies a leading position since 1927, indicating that its ideology is fully consistent with the presentation of the Norwegian people of consent in society and justice.
