Nobel Peace Center was officially opened in 2005 by King Harald of Norway, and is timed to the celebration of the centennial of independence. It is located in a former railway station, built in 1872, standing half-turned to the Town Hall Square with views of the harbor.

The center is both a museum about the history of the Nobel Peace Prize, and an exhibition hall with constantly updated exhibits on the struggle for peace, and the club for discussions on issues relating to war, peace and conflict resolution. In addition, there are often various cultural events and public lectures.

The Nobel Peace Prize was established by the famous Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel, inventor of dynamite. Documented she was framed in 1895. a testament to the astronomical sum bequeathed by the people who brought the good of the world. The award of the world takes place in the Oslo City Hall every year on December 10 the day of the death of Alfred Nobel. Currently the center is supported by funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Culture, the help of sponsors and ticket sales.
