Monument "The sailor with a grenade", located in Novorossiysk on the main avenue - one of the city's attractions. The place for the installation of the monument was chosen not by chance, it was here in March 1943 and took the first line of defense. The grand opening of the monument "The sailor with a grenade" held on September 16 1972 and was timed to the 29th anniversary of the liberation of Novorossiysk from the Nazi troops.
Officially, the monument is also known as "engine-paratrooper." Height made of white stone monument is three meters and the width - four meters. The monument is a high pedestal, which depicts a man greatly compressed in their hands the grenade.
The authors of the monument "The sailor with a grenade" are sculptors Nikolai Nikitin and Nikolai K. Bozhenenko. Both of them were fellow-Novorossiysk and fought at the front, so there is no doubt that this monument was made very carefully.
On the back of the stone, which is made of the monument "The sailor with a grenade," you can see a map that shows all the lines of defense, as well as a list of departments and units fought bravely and defended the city of Novorossiysk on the fascist troops.
